Fairmont is able to offer a limited amount of tuition assistance to Fairmont families in grades JK-12 each year. Fairmont’s tuition assistance program is based solely on need. Admissions decisions are made independently of eligibility for tuition assistance. A student must apply for admission, be accepted and enrolled with a deposit in order to be considered for assistance.

Fairmont uses the online application services of Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST). The FAST program is flexible in terms of the information it will accommodate, thus allowing families to represent their own particular circumstances more accurately. It is our expectation that your child’s Fairmont education be among your highest priorities when it comes to your family’s discretionary expenses. In determining a family’s eligibility factors such as family size, parents’ ages, extraordinary expenses and retirement provisions are considered. Distinctions are made between obligatory expenses and those made by choice. In situations of divorce or separation, your child’s non-custodial parent must also complete the on-line process. In the case of an absentee parent or one who has no obligation to your child’s education, we require further written explanation.

Fairmont requires that all applicants, new and re-enrolling, complete the FAST application and submit current supporting documentation each year. Documentation such at current tax returns, business tax returns and w-2’s are required annually. As Fairmont has a limited amount of tuition assistance funds available we cannot guarantee that 100% of your need will be met or for returning students meeting an increased need should a family’s financial situation changes though Fairmont will make every effort to accommodate all families that are deemed eligible.

Q. Who can apply for financial aid?

A. Any student currently enrolled or new applicants for admission to Fairmont Private Schools for junior kindergarten through 12th grade can apply for financial aid. Generally, aid will only be awarded for newly accepted students and current students enrolled for the following school year and whose tuition account is current.

Q. Does applying for financial aid affect school admission decisions?

A. No. The committee that reviews candidates for admissions is “need blind.” It does not consider whether or not someone has applied for financial aid as part of its decision.

Q. How are financial aid awards determined?

A. Fairmont relies on the assistance of FAST in calculating the level of demonstrated need of each applicant based upon a completed application. These calculations consider gross income, non-taxable income, assets, liabilities, family size, and situations in which the income levels do not support the spending levels, among other items. Included in this calculation is an allowance for basic living expenses and taxes. The Fairmont Financial Aid Committee reviews this data and will adjust the amounts based upon additional knowledge about your unique situation.

Q. Can I still apply for financial aid after the deadline?

A. Fairmont does not stop families from submitting FAST applications after the deadline, but our prior experience indicates that it is highly unlikely that we will be able to offer any need-based awards to late applicants who do not meet the August 1 deadline for new applicants or the June 1 deadline for currently enrolled Fairmont students. We allocate need-based financial aid awards that meet as much of the demonstrated need as possible for families who apply by the filing deadline.

Q. What documents do I need to submit in addition to filling out the financial aid
applications?

A. You will need to submit the following:

• Your year-end W2 for all jobs worked in 2020. If you are receiving Social Security, unemployment, or disability compensation, you will need to submit a copy of 1099s.
• A complete copy of your 2020 federal and state tax return, including all schedules and business tax returns, such as K1s and Form 1120s for corporations.

Q. What if my tax return for 2020 has not been filed in time to submit it with my aid
application?

A. You will need to submit the following:

• A copy of the Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File US
  Individual Income Tax Return to extend your 2020 federal tax return.
• Your year-end W2s and 1099s for all jobs worked in 2020. If you are receiving Social
  Security, unemployment, or disability compensation, you will need to submit copies of
  those 1099s.
• A complete copy of your 2019 federal and state tax return, including all schedules and business tax returns, such as K1s and Form 1120s for corporations. Tax returns must be received for your application to be considered complete and eligible for any award. All awards granted are contingent upon receipt and review of all required documents.
